The “Advanced Search” Trick

Here’s the one that saves you from endless scrolling:

The trick: Hulu’s home screen usually only shows you what the algorithm thinks is popular or what matches your broad watch history. But the search bar actually supports highly specific category combinations.

Why it works: Instead of typing a specific movie title, you can combine genres and descriptors to find exactly what you’re in the mood for.

The steps:

  1. Open Hulu on your TV or web browser.
  2. Go to the Search icon.
  3. Type a specific combination instead of a title. Examples: “Dark Comedy Suspense”, “90s Alien Documentaries”, or “True Crime Miniseries”.
  4. Hulu will pull up a curated micro-category of titles that fit those exact parameters.

The result: You instantly find hidden gems that match your exact mood instead of staring at the same recommended homepage.

💡 Bonus Feature:

Turn off Autoplay. Go to Profile → Settings → Playback → Toggle off “Autoplay”. It stops the next episode from auto-starting, which saves your “Continue Watching” list from getting cluttered with episodes you skipped or fell asleep during.

Another Bonus
The Data Saver

If you watch Hulu on your phone a lot, go to Account → Playback Options and turn on “Save Data”. It lowers the video quality slightly on cellular networks, which prevents your data cap from getting eaten up halfway through a commute.
